Patanjali Kundalini Yoga Care (PKYC) is a spiritual direction service for sincere spiritual seekers of all spiritual traditions. Based on the spiritual understandings of Traditional Kundalini Science (TKS) as preserved through scripture, oral lineage, and inner experience, PKYC seeks to educate and guide sincere spiritual aspirants to care effectively for their subtle bodies, properly affect their subtle energies, and eliminate impediments so that Kundalini Shakti, the divine within, can yield for them the higher levels of spiritual experience. PKYC offers retreats to provide individualized recommendations for promoting spiritual development. The retreat is preceded by an assessment of the individual's Kundalini process and followed by consultation sessions and the possibility of follow up retreats. PKYC seeks to support serious, qualified spiritual aspirants to live a healthy, spiritual lifestyle and to carefully accelerate spiritual progress by properly cooperating with Kundalini Shakti's efforts to complete her rising.
PKYC provides spiritual guidance for qualified spiritual seekers who have had a Kundalini rising and/or are genuinely dedicated to advancing their spiritual development. Specialized, personalized spiritual guidance is provided on an individual basis to support and facilitate the person's Kundalini (i.e. spiritual) process so that spiritual improvement can more easily occur. A custom designed individualized program of spiritual practice is provided for each consultee of PKYC during an in-person initial retreat intended to safely boost their spiritual progress. The purpose of PKYC is to help earnest, capable seekers support their spiritual process in a way that will allow for its efficient, optimum improvement. PKYC serves as an adjunct to the seeker's own spiritual tradition or perspective. PKYC is ideally suited to help people who have a spiritual yearning, some sense of faith, and/or a loving, respectful concept of the Divine or One. They are thus able to tap this feeling to muster patience, understanding, endurance, cooperation, and dedication for a serious spiritual endeavor.
The name Patanjali Kundalini Yoga Care first gives homage to the sage Patanjali, who was an adept master in the sciences of mind, brain, and spiritual health and who codified the Yoga Sutras. "Kundalini" is the name of the Divine power within. More subtle and profound than its agent energy, it is Shakti, the inner Divine presence contained in the subtle body. It can be released and can manifest in a variety of ways, and its ultimate purpose is the spiritual liberation of the individual. "Yoga" means spiritual method and also refers to the union of the individual self and universal Self. "Care" refers to the compassionate, skillful service that is the aim of PKYC. It is the hope of PKYC to help sincere spiritual seekers skillfully support Kundalini Shakti's efforts toward this goal. This service is designed to help increase the spiritual population one person at a time. Further information about our perspective is available in the book Kundalini Vidya.
PKYC provides spiritual guidance to qualified seekers to help them effectively support their Kundalini process. Kundalini Shakti herself can then enhance spiritual growth in each individual in her own way. The consultee's practice of the PKYC recommendations affects their subtle body in such a way that Kundalini Shakti's efforts to improve her functioning in them are properly supported.
PKYC offers four phases of service, starting with the Introductory phase, which offers education and an assessment to inform the seeker of the kind of Kundalini rising they have, if any. The primary goal of the Intervention phase of PKYC, if the seeker chooses to pursue it, is to provide individualized recommendations, the practice of which is designed to support Kundalini Shakti in attaining Makara point in the Upper Brow center, Ajna chakra. The subsequent Support phase offers regular consultations to help the consultee adapt to this shift, to deal effectively with the various challenges of subtle body unloading that takes place in the Renovation/Restoration (R&R) phase that follows, and to become firmly established in spiritual life. Finally, the Advanced phase offers spiritual direction to assist the more progressed consultee as needed or desired.
Patanjali Kundalini Yoga Care was developed through the 1990's and was refined using the traditional Vedic fourfold method of verification: scriptural reference, reconciliation of inconsistencies in various texts, spiritual practice, and results of practice. The format was formally established by the time of the first standard PKYC Spiritual Guidance Retreat, which was offered in the fall of 1997. Bri. Shivarpita Chaitanya (Joan S. Harrigan, Ph.D.) is the director of PKYC USA, and Swami Chandrasekharanand Saraswati of Rishikesh, India, is her spiritual guide and director of PKYC India.
